David Pope serves clients in various capacities regarding their state and local tax (SALT) matters, including state and local tax litigation, planning and audit defense issues. He advises on technical state and local corporate income and franchise tax issues, including nexus, allocation and apportionment, bankruptcy implications and new tax legislation. Also, when a company undergoes restructuring due to corporate reorganization, mergers and acquisitions, or for debt purposes, David develops the related tax plan at the state and local level. David also advises clients, generally, in corporate structurings and restructurings to maximize state and local tax benefits. In addition to income and franchise tax issues, David also focuses his time on sales and use tax issues. Specifically, David advises clients on issues related to nexus and taxability of products and services for all industries. Before joining the firm, David was a senior associate in the state and local tax group of a Big Four accounting firm. He also served as a legal intern in the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
